Watch the Recording:
Data guru Edward Tufte has said, “Power corrupts. PowerPoint corrupts absolutely.” We have all been victims of cluttered, confusing, misleading charts and tables. Just because we have graphics tools does not mean we are good at designing compelling visuals. By understanding basic data visualization principles, you can improve your ability to communicate with data. This session focuses on the importance of good visual design in succinctly telling a story with data. Using rich examples, the presenter will share techniques to de-clutter graphs, draw attention to key information, and reduce the audience’s cognitive load. By seeing the evolution of visualizations as the principles are applied, participants will recognize the value of intentional design in their data storytelling.
After attending in this session, participants will be able to:
-
-
- Reduce clutter from charts and graphs
- Visually focus an audience’s attention on key messages
- Discuss the science of why all this works.
