Recording Available Until 09/27:
Performance-Focused Learner Surveys
Program Description:
Year after year, we in learning-and-development feel frustrated in the learning evaluation we are able to do. Mostly we use traditional smile sheets even though we are suspicious of them. Our intuitions align with the scientific research. Traditional smile sheets are virtually uncorrelated with learning results. Fortunately, there is a better way. In this session, Will Thalheimer, author of the award-winning book Performance-Focused Learner Surveys will share his hard-earned lessons learned about how to design and utilize the distinctive questioning approach. The session will cover the following topics: (1) the science on traditional learner surveys, (2) the problems with Likert and numeric scales, (3) the weaknesses learners bring to the job of evaluating learning, (4) Will’s personal journey in using learner surveys, (5) how to build better questions, (6) how to send messages and nudge action, and (7) how learner surveys fit into LTEM (the Learning-Transfer Evaluation Model).
Whether you’re a trainer, instructional designer, learning evaluator, or manager of learning; this engaging session will provide you with practical insights you’ll be able to use right away. And, as a bonus, Will has agreed to provide a copy of his award-winning book (Performance-Focused Learner Surveys, 2nd Edition) to two people randomly chosen from those in attendance.
