Data guru Edward Tufte has said, “Power corrupts. PowerPoint corrupts absolutely.” We have all been victims of cluttered, confusing, misleading charts and tables. Just because we have graphics tools does not mean we are good at designing compelling visuals. By understanding basic data visualization principles, you can improve your ability to communicate with data. This session focuses on the importance of good visual design in succinctly telling a story with data. Using rich examples, the presenter will share techniques to de-clutter graphs, draw attention to key information, and reduce the audience’s cognitive load. By seeing the evolution of visualizations as the principles are applied, participants will recognize the value of intentional design in their data storytelling.

After attending in this session, participants will be able to:

      • Reduce clutter from charts and graphs
      • Visually focus an audience’s attention on key messages
      • Discuss the science of why all this works.

The Digital Divide

The Digital Divide

Featured Speaker: Shannon Tipton

ISPI Atlanta Chapter Webinar:
November 17, 2021, 12:00 – 1:00pm EST

Program Description:

While L&D leaders met the urgent need to move more into a digital environment during the pandemic, some have thrived, but others have dived. Rapid conversions from the classroom to virtual and reliance on vast online libraries have left both learning leaders and learners with a severe case of content fatigue at best, and at worse on the brink of opening up a major digital divide. Has rush meant have we missed the opportunity to drive real business value? What can we learn from our past that will better prepare us for our future? Does the digital divide apply to businesses? The term digital divide typically describes a gap in terms of access to and usage of technology in households and communities and was traditionally considered to be a question of having or not having access to technology. When we shift the lens to organizations today, and with a global mobile phone penetration of over 95%, the organizational digital divide represents the inequality between those who have more and less bandwidth combined with more or less skills.

How can L&D partner with the business to prevent a collapse of organizational social learning structures, focus on innovation and collaboration to prevent a digital divide? How can L&D step up to the plate and add value? How can L&D better partner with organizations to support employee emersion into the digital world, which can be at their disposal in any given situation? If a valued partnership is not created, are organizations at risk of experiencing an even larger gap?

In this session we will discuss In this session we will discuss how the divide is present in different technological skill levels of employees and this divide may be a main reason of slowed or delayed productivity or upskilling. In addition, we will explore the following topics:

    • Is technology bringing us together or driving us apart?
    • How to focus on digital innovation and collaboration
    • How does L&D help bridge the divide while partnering with the business
